Teaching Inquiry?
My work intersects the realms of sculpture, green woodworking and general woodworking. Furniture-focused woodshops oftentimes are not equipped with the tools necessary to teach a class using this specific blend of methods. To streamline the basic planning stages, please see the list below of items that are needed but aren’t typically already in woodshops. These ones are harder to compromise on, whereas the other tools are often more easily sourced or substituted.
Atypical tools + materials needed
sturdy bench with a tail vise for each student
carving gouges, both straight and long bent
angle grinders with paddle switches
power carving attachments
fresh cut (green) logs
Let’s get planning!
In your initial email, please include a detailed list of your shop tools along with the number available, types, sizes etc of the specific tools listed above. If you have suggestions for suitable replacements for the tools above or are able to purchase tools, please make a note. I’ve compiled a comprehensive workshop checklist and guide with explanations of the full scope of what would be needed that I’ll send over in my first reply email. If it still seems like a good fit for both of us after that, a zoom meeting will be scheduled to go over more details.
